Photography exhibition: impromptu

This small photography exhibition, taking place in one of the Stavrinos Inn’s supplementary rooms, was organised impromptu, in both senses of the phrase… We were eager to see the little room come alive again and, without having any plan to start with, we improvised, yet with intention and care.

So, in a space that almost serves as the festival’s reception area, we wanted to present the notion of coming together through photographs of gatherings of the people of Katydata of past times, which were first exhibited, among other material, ten years ago. In 2025, we breathe new life into these photos, honouring the notion of coming together and celebrating, intertwining them with the traditional wooden sink (vourna) and the wicker basket (tsestos), objects that seem alive in the photographs, but today are silent carriers of bygone memories. We thought of the hanging basket, with its frayed edge, as the end of the thread that strives to unite the past with the present, the gatherings of yesterday’s Katydata with the Festival’s crowds today.

They say that the best gatherings are the ones that happen by chance, the ones that haven’t been organised or scheduled… And this might be true, even the randomness of the moments plays its part - so let yourself fly elsewhere, through the magic of wind instruments, music and every sort of sound.
